Mary McCague (M.Mus (Perf), M.SC, B.A(Hons), H,Dip(Ed), Dip(Ed), LRIAM) is a professional pianist with a passion for piano accompanying and musical collaboration. Mary has a music studio at her home in Belgooly, near Kinsale, which boasts a beautiful Kawai K3 baby grand piano. She can provide piano accompaniment for all levels from beginner to professional, for Exams, Feis and Concerts.
Mary holds a Masters in Piano Performance, with First Class Honours, from the Royal Irish Academy of Music, where she studied with renowned international pianist and teacher, Dr. John O'Conor. In addition, she holds a degree in Music and Irish from Trinity College, also with First Class Honours, and during her time there, Mary was awarded a coveted Scholarship of the College. Furthermore, she successfully achieved a H.Dip(Ed) and M.Sc, both from Trinity College, along with a Higher Diploma in Choral Conducting from St. Patrick's College/ DCU.
While studying piano, Mary won numerous First Prize awards at the prestigious Dublin Feis Ceoil, including Junior and Senior Concerto, Junior and Senior Repertoire, Senior Sonata, Senior Baroque, Senior Piano, Sightreading and all the piano duet competitions alongside her sister, Catherine. Mary has worked as orchestral accompanist with the RTE Concert Orchestra, RTE National Symphony, Irish Chamber Orchestra and Cork Pops Orchestra. She also performed as Piano Soloist on numerous occasions with both RTECO and NSO for their Irish Times Music in the Classroom Series, under the baton of Gearóid Grant and concerto soloist with UCD Symphony Orchestra (Ravel Piano Concerto in G Major), Trinity College Orchestral Society (Beethoven Concerto No. 1 & Poulenc Two Piano Concerto), the Royal Irish Academy of Music Wind Ensemble (Prokofiev Piano Concerto) and the RIAM Symphony Orchestra (Ravel Piano Concerto in G major).
Passionate about working with young people, Mary endeavours to help students reach their true potential in a relaxed manner. Also a violinist, she is particularly familiar with string repertoire and offers coaching as well as accompaniment. A native of Dundalk, Mary worked for a number of years as performance lecturer and accompanist at Dundalk Institute of Technology and as pianist and MD with Dundalk Musical Society. She is also the official Vocal accompanist at the Sligo Feis Ceoil since 2016 and accompanies on a freelance basis at MTU Cork School of Music, Cork ETB and Feis Maitiu Corcaigh. She is the official accompanist with the award winning Cork choir, The Carrigaline Singers.
